All these years I've only heard of people buying macs off the shelf as it were. Imacs, G4's, macbooks, macbook pros, etc. yet, only pcs and windows/linux os and others, macs aside , it seems, that can be self customized/built.
Logically I would lean on the side that one can throw together some components scrounged up from the basement in to a basic computer and throw on OS9 or whatever is the latest mac OS out there. But will that work? Are there actual propriotary components that one must use in order for the mac os to accept it? *ponder*
Of course I understand about drivers, but is that just it? As long as one finds components that are compatible with the Mac OS and walah, you've got a mac computer?
hmmm
No. There are certain components OS-10 uses to identify a Mac. However, if you googled "osx86", you could find some stuff about how to hack OSX and use it with a home-built machine. I wouldn't recommend going that route, but suit yourself.
About twelve years ago there was a business of making MAC clones. We had a keyboard from one that Dad picked up because he liked the action back when we used to use macs, but those clones were built under licence from companys like Umax. Yes, there were probably leaks, which is probably one of the reasons why Apple killed the arangement ten years ago.
